REMARKS: Hampden 18 Size Gold Filled Massive Hunter Case Pocket Watch with a fancy Scallop-edged Case in very fine condition. This pocket watch has an ornately engraved case with leaves and flowers and scene of a village on the back cover. Most of the scallop-edged or coin-edged gold filled cases from the 1890-1910s are all completely worn through to the base metal core and this case is still in very nice shape with some small bits of wear-through to the very edge part of the scalloped sides. The front and back covers are in minty condition with sharp engravings without any wear-through. The gothic font ‘Dueber’ was written in red along with outer 5min chapters which gives the dial a special look. The 15J movement is also a nice one with nickle finish, blued screws and rose gold colored jewel settings. For collectors and fans of pocket watches this is a great item to own without paying the high prices for solid gold cases which have now skyrocketed due to gold price increase. Even through this is a gold filled case it has a sizable chunk of solid gold intrinsically as the gold-filled case is made from outer layers of solid gold.
CONDITION REPORT: Condition-wise the watch winds and runs sluggishly and we have not timed or had it serviced so we don’t offer any guarantee on timekeeping. Most likely it will require full service if the owner wants to use it frequently. Cosmetically again there are some small bits of wear-through to the very edge part of the scalloped sides. The front and back covers are in minty condition with sharp engravings without any wear-through. The enamel dial has a few short hairline cracks near the seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock. Bezel and inside the front cover there is some tarnish which can be polished off. Movement surface has some unevenness in tone but no obvious rust. Overall this is a very fancy and nice example of an 18s American Pocket Watch from the 1890s. Diameter is 55mm.
