REMARKS: Ornate and Rare Vintage Ladies Cocktail Watch/Bangle/Bracelet from Longines Watch Co. with Opal Gems. This appears to be a 1940s timepiece with customization at the jewelry store where it was sold catering to the customer’s demands. The purchaser obviously loved opals to have 9 pieces of the gem adorning the top cover. Although it is both a watch and a bangle bracelet, functionally it is more of a piece of jewelry with concealed top cover that can be flipped open to reveal the watch dial. In terms of vintage ladies cocktail watches from the 1930-1950s, it is scarce to find bangle designs and extremely rare to find one adorned with opal. Opal as a gem has the brilliance of multi-color rainbow refraction due to its silicate property that no other gem can match. The Longines watch itself has a caliber 510 hand winding movement made in an era where Longines Watch Co. dominated as a precision watchmaking brand worldwide.
CONDITION REPORT: Condition-wise the watch winds and runs but we cannot guarantee timekeeping accuracy or longevity as we don’t know its service history. For any pre-owned watch we strongly recommend service if it’s intended for regular wear. PLEASE DO NOT EXPOSE IT TO MOISTURE OR DIP IT IN WATER AS IT IS NOT ASSUMED TO BE WATER RESISTANT. Cosmetically the watch is in good condition where there is no major defect to its condition. Being a customized piece of vintage jewelry from the 1940s there is a lot of hand done work that gives it that unique piece feel. The opals are all intact and the front watch cover is well-hinged with good flipping action. The bangle hinge and clasp and safety clasp are all working well. There is a little bit of scratch on the Longines text on the dial and some scratches on the crystal. It will fit up to 6.8” inches. Total weight is 28.8 grams. The widest point of the front cover is 17mm.
