REMARKS: We are proud to present one of the most historically interesting and rare pocket watches we’ve ever offered up for sale. This is an Elgin 16 Size 14K Multi-Color Gold Pocket Watch with USS Connecticut Battleship painted on its dial to commemorate the Great White Fleet’s world circumnavigation voyage between 1907-1909. The Great White Fleet was led by USS Connecticut, which is painted on this pocket watch’s dial, to sail around the world under orders of President Theodore Roosevelt to familiarize US Naval Troops with the world’s waters at the time as well as to show military might of the United States, especially towards Japan. This was one of the greatest show of US military strength and farthest US naval voyage in history. Based on the movement it was manufactured in 1911 as Elgin grade 381, and at the time this dial was made in extremely low numbers to commemorate the Great White Fleet starting from around 1908.
CONDITION REPORT: Condition-wise the watch winds, sets, and runs well but we cannot guarantee timekeeping accuracy or longevity as this is an antique timepiece that has not been serviced. For any antique watch movement we always recommend for the owner to conduct full service with qualified watchmaker to ensure longevity of the mechanism. Cosmetically it is really rare and spectacular to find such a historically significant watch in near mint condition. The enamel dial with USS Connecticut is in mint shape with no crack, chip or discoloration. Multi-color gold case is also in great shape with no dings or dents and it is sharp to the touch to its outer covers. There is a slight dent to its dustcover that is barely noticeable. Overall it’s just a wonderful piece of horological and naval history to behold. Diameter is 49mm, total weight 105.6g.
