REMARKS: Extremely Rare Dietrich Gruen 18K Solid Gold Up/Down Wind Indicator (Power Reserve) Pocket Watch. The Dietrich Gruen Up/Down Pocket Watch in all-original 18K Solid Gold Case with Enamel Dial is a Grail-status collectible known for its extreme rarity and superb fine craftsmanship. It is believed that no more than 300pcs were made by Gruen Watch Co. and possibly much lesser, since this was one of their best watches with 23 jewel (large rubies), extremely fine finishing such as chamfering of the wolf-teeth winding wheels, and adjusted to all positions/temperatures thus given the ‘EXTRA’ designation. The Dietrich Gruen Up/Down Indicator Watch is scarcer than the famous Gruen 50th Anniversary watch, and certainly on par in terms of craftsmanship and brand heritage. Very few of the Dietrich Gruen Up/Down indicator were ever produced since it was intended to be one of Gruen Watch Co.’s statement pieces and only sold by custom orders. It carried a hefty price tag of $300 in 1917 and it was presented as Dietrich Gruen’s last contribution to the watch industry in this Ultra-Fine Timepiece.
