REMARKS: Truly rare American made pocket watch in this auction. This is the Hamilton ‘Hayden Wheeler’ Private Label Pocket Watch in Open Face with 21 jewels. The Hayden Wheeler has long been coveted as one of the rarest productions by Hamilton where in open face with 21 jewels there was 1,196 ever made. These watches were special ordered by Hayden Wheeler and made particular to this model only, the watch was not part of standard Hamilton production. It was made to the highest order by Hamilton, with 21 ruby jewels set in solid gold settings, gold wheel train, gold balance screws, and beautifully executed wavy damaskeening throughout. The dials were either blank in the original Hayden Wheeler contract productions or later signed with ‘Hamilton’ or other private jobber names after the original contract expired. This particular example has a great double sunk Hamilton dial. The 14K case has the Hayden Wheeler hallmark inside the dustcover as well.
CONDITION REPORT: Condition-wise the watch is running well but we cannot guarantee timekeeping accuracy since it has not been serviced. For any antique watch movement we always recommend for the owner to conduct full service with qualified watchmaker to ensure longevity of the mechanism. Cosmetically the dial has a very faint hairline at 3 o’clock marker that can only be seen by loupe. The movement is very clean and nearly all tarnish free except for a few small spots on the small winding wheel. The solid 14K gold case is in great condition fully engraved with the original presentation which is really well done and adds on to the history of this timepiece. Diameter is 49mm and total weight is 86g. Comes with Hamilton mahogany wood box as a set. Overall it’s just a rare and beautiful watch that rarely comes up for sale.
