REMARKS: Historical Timepiece Pocket Watch that is a part of Peru’s history. This is an American Waltham Riverside Model 1888 16s cased in 18K Solid Gold Hunter Case and retailed by Rosenberg & Wallach, Joyeros, Lima Peru. On the dustcover it is engraved C.E. Leguia 10-10-1911. However it is the extravagant and ornate chased engravings over the entire case will give anyone looking at it a sense of fascination and awe. The deeply chased engravings are 100% handcrafted with absolute artistry and so fine that it few pocket watches can compare to it. Immediately by looking at it we are sure this was made at great expense for someone very special with the name Leguia. A simple search on the web reveals that Augusto B. Leguia was the President of Peru during when this watch was presented. Thus we surmise that this pocket watch was given as a gift to a relative of Augusto B. Leguia during his first term as President of Peru. In the early 20th Century Peru was not a prosperous country and only the elites could afford something extravagant like this, which is even over-the-top by American or European standards. It is almost certainly chase engraved in South America by a very talented artist since the style is highly reminiscent of South American craftsmanship. Rosenberg & Wallach was one of the top jewelers in all of Peru and that part of South America at the time so they would’ve been able to order this pocket watch from the USA then commission to have this pocket watch fully engraved.
