REMARKS: Heirloom quality Levrette Watch Co (La-Chaux-de-Fonds) Minute Repeater Chronograph Pocket Watch in 14K Solid Gold Hunter Case. Amazingly this minute repeater pocket watch was presented as a gift and the dustcover is covered with Japanese engravings. It is high rare to see Asian gift presentations with antique pocket watches let alone one as complicated as this since they were exorbitantly expensive to the Asian market over 100 years ago. Based on ‘Swiss Timepiece Makers’ by Pritchard, Leverette Watch Co was a registered company in La-Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland in 1920-1925 and was descended from Braunschweig & Co. Almost certainly the watch has movement ebauche from Le Phare with the fly-wheel repeater mechanism.
CONDITION REPORT: Condition-wise the watch runs, set, the repeater and chronograph mechanism both work, but we cannot guarantee any functional or mechanical elements as this is an antique timepiece over 100 years in age. The repeater works and it generally chimes the correct time but occasionally it can be off by a few minutes. The hour strike is nice and clear, whereas the quarter and minute chimes has rattle (adjustable issue, not due to replaced wire gong). The chronograph works but the center seconds is not entirely vertical as can be seen from the pictures. We recommend for any and all antique pocket watches to undergo service by a trusted watchmaker to extend its usage life. Cosmetically it has some issues with rust, with rusty hands and various parts of the movement especially the steel parts. The 14K solid gold hunter case has some dents to the front cover and case band. The engine-turning guilloche is still sharp on both front and back covers. Enamel dial is also in great shape, there is an almost imperceptible hairline near the 5 o’clock marker. Overall it is a rare antique watch still functioning and in generally good condition with a very special history linked to Japan. Diameter is 54.5mm.
