REMARKS: Wonderful horological art in the Breitling Laederisch 18K Solid Gold Hunter Case Enamel Pocket Watch with front cover depicting a lady listening to man playing the bagpipe and the back cover showing a beautiful Irish Setter Dog laying down beneath a tree. Subjects depicted in these enamel panels is highly suggestive that this watch was originally sold to the Irish/Scottish markets. The watch comes with an 8 jewels cylinder movement that looks to be made before 1850’s with nickle finish. It is extremely rare to find enamel pocket watches from so long ago that was a Swiss export to Ireland/Scotland. It was almost certainly made for some nobleman of these regions.
CONDITION REPORT: Condition-wise the watch winds, sets and runs. However, the movement is very dirty with tarnish/discoloration to nearly all of the bridges and plates. With skilled watchmaker the movement can be made to look an operate many times better. Antique pocket watches like this specimen will likely need full service to run normally, it is the sole decision and responsibility of end-user to service or not. We will not accept return based on claim of functional issues. Cosmetically the enamel dial has hairline cracks and a signifant chipped section around the center hole. Both front and back cover enamels are fully intact with no missing section but they do have some noticeable scratches. As mentioned earlier the movement surface is very tarnished and can use a full service to clean. Case body has a significant crease near the side towards the bottom. The bow has been converted to a pendant holder, this can be easily converted back to bow. No key is included. Please check the enlarged pics carefully for any concerns and feel free to inquire. Diameter is 40mm. Total weight is 50.4 grams.
