Scarce and wonderful Patek Philippe Relojoaria Gondolo 18K Yellow Gold Pocket Watch made for the Brazilian market circa 1890-1900s. Usually Patek Philippe ‘Chronometro Gondolo’ pocket watches are the models to represent the Brazilian antique watch scene. This particular specimen was ordered and retailed by the famous Gondolo & Labouriau watchmakers/jewelers in Rio de Janeiro as ‘Relojoaria Gondolo’ models. If ‘Chronometro Gondolo’ was considered the top grade then ‘Relojoaria Gondolo’ was the general grade series for Patek Philippe watches. This by no means says these ‘Relojoaria Gondolo’ watches are average or common, they were still only affordable to the wealthy and elites of society and it carries much of the same quality as the ‘Chronometro Gondolo’ watches with such high grade features as: wolf teeth winding wheels, mustache lever fork, large red ruby jewels, Geneva seals and more. Certainly today we see much less ‘Relojoario Gondolo’ signed pocket watches which make them an interesting part of the Patek Philippe’s history.
