REMARKS: Rare full set Antique J. Assmann Glashütte 1/Sachsen 14K Solid Rose Gold Hunter Case Pocket Watch from approximately 1900s fitted with Paillard’s Non-Magnetic Sprial Hairspring.  It is extremely rare to see J. Assmann’s German Glashütte style ¾ plate movement fitted with this patented alloy hairspring.  Incredibly this specimen has lasted over 120 years still complete with its original Box, Certificate, Instruction Sheet and Parts intact.  In today’s high grade horology there is much praise for the German Glashutte manufacturers with the pillar being A. Lange & Sohne.  Back in 19th Century when Adolf Lange founded his manufactury in Dresden then Glashutte, he was aided by the talented Julius Assmann who later would become his son-in-law and also the founder of the current watch for sale.  In terms of the Glashutte pocket watches A. Lange and J. Assmann were the two biggest makers with the finest quality products.  While neither were produced in great quantities compared to their Swiss counterparts, J. Assmann made much less quantity and through time it became name that is not well-known.  This current example is the only specimen of J. Assmann movement fitted with Paillard’s Non-Magnetic Hairspring that we have ever seen and it must have been an experimental product.

CONDITION REPORT: Condition-wise it is running strong and we have not checked the timekeeping accuracy or longevity.  Therefore, we do not make any guarantee on the functions of the watch mechanism as this is an antique timepiece well cared for but have not been serviced.  The maintenance and upkeeping of the watch is the sole responsibility of the next owner.  Cosmetically it is in great shape with a mint dial and all original blue steel hands.  The 14K solid rose gold case has some shallow denting to create a slight ripple when the case is shone at different light angles.  The engine-turned patterns on the case is still visible but shallow after many years of wear.  Movement is in very good cosmetic shape.  It comes with its original full set accessories including Box, Signed Certificate (w/ Paul Assmann signature), Instruction Manual (green sheet), Extra Mainspring and Extra Enamel Dial (w/ hairline cracks).  Diameter is 51mm, total weight is 101g.
