ELGIN 14K 8-Size 43mm Grade 94 Circa 1884 11j Rare Lighthouse Hunter Case Multi-Color Solid Gold Heavy Case

REMARKS: Rare and superb Elgin 18K Multi-Color Hunter Case Pocket Watch with High Relief Lighthouse Figure on Caseback.  This is such a work-of-art and extravagant pocket watch circa 1884 that on the back cover a masterfully executed lighthouse sitting on a mossy rock cliff in green gold stands out against a background of sailboats navigating the wavy sea along with the sun rising at the horizon.  Nothing was overlooked in this artistic masterpiece that the lighthouse beacon is even decorated with a piece of diamond.  Besides the watch case itself being made in solid pink gold, the outer laurel framing comes in green, rose and blue gold colors to complete this elaborate scene in a total of 4-colors of solid gold.  On the opposite front cover the 4-colors of gold are all present as well.  Based on the movement serial number this Elgin pocket watch is a Grade 94 with 11 jewels made in 1884.

CONDITION REPORT: Condition-wise the watch runs and sets, but we cannot guarantee any functional or mechanical elements as this is an antique timepiece over 100 years in age.  As far as we can see it’s running quite dry so we definitely recommend for this antique pocket watch to undergo service by a trusted watchmaker.  Cosmetically this pocket watch is in excellent condition especially considering its old age where all of the edges and corners of the case and covers are all quite sharp to the touch.  We only see slight surface scratches to the soft solid gold case and don’t see any significant issues.  There is no crack or chip we can see on the enamel dial.  Overall this is a rare and wonderful timepiece that will be a valuable part of any high-end watch collection.  Diameter is 43mm, total weight 74.5g.
