| CONDITION: | Runs, Winds, and Sets. Not Serviced. Very good overall cosmetic condition. The dial has been repainted for the ‘GRUEN’ and ‘60’ texts and the ‘E’ text above of the seconds chapter has faded. The applied gold hour markers have also tarnished. There are also some fine scratches on the dial. Case back has two brown spots of tarnish that can be easily polished off. The true appealing part of the watch which is the solid gold movement is in great condition. |

REMARKS: We are delighted to offer this super rare Gruen Fiftieth 50th Anniversary Pentagon Pocket Watch for sale, this is truly a collector’s grail pocket watch so don’t miss the chance to own one! In 1924 Gruen Watch Co decided to design and manufacture a pocket watch to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of its founding in 1874 as Columbus Watch Co by Dietrich Gruen. To make a watch worthy of celebrating this milestone for the brand, Gruen Watch Co decided to use 12K solid gold to forge all of the plates and bridges for this special movement. No expense was spared as they also put 2 cut diamond cap jewels for the balance and escape wheel. As this was a commemorative model, customers could only special order it through dealers for a significant wait time, and in 1924 this watch in 14K Solid Gold Pentagon Case was sold for $500 which was a tremendous amount of money. Only 600pcs were manufactured according to historical records, towards the end of production it coincided with the great depression so possibly some specimen were not fully completed. The Gruen 50th Anniversary Pocket Watch was certainly one of the best pocket watches of its day and with such glorious history it’s such a great collectible.
